The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) in a ceremonial signing of the memorandum of understanding that will deepen research and educational cooperation between the two institutions.<\/span><\/strong><\/div>

TUT and SGGW are already successfully collaborating as part of the Erasmus+ programme, which has to date seen the exchange of nine students and nine staff members in the Faculty of Science.<\/p>

\u201cBoth universities have benefited from the exchange of, not only staff and students, but also from the exchange of ideas in digital agriculture and nanotechnology. We are now exploring additional opportunities that we believe will enrich our academic networks. This will assist us in preparing our students for the future of work and enable us to conduct impactful, mutually beneficial research,\u201d said Dr Vathi Papu-Zamxaka, DVC: Research, Innovation and Engagement at TUT at the signing ceremony.<\/p>

Dr Papu-Zamxaka also emphasised the critical role universities play in responding to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular in relation to climate action. \u00a0<\/p>

This sentiment was echoed by Dr Marta Mendel, Vice-Rector: International Cooperation at SGGW. \u201cDue to current European Union regulations, the green economy is topical and research collaboration focusing on renewable energies and green transformation would, therefore, be beneficial\u201d. She further indicated the importance of trans-, inter-, and multi-disciplinary approaches to solving climate challenges in the world.<\/p>

New areas of collaboration that will be considered going forward include, joint research projects, co-hosting of postdoctoral fellows, joint supervision of postgraduate students, joint masters and doctoral programmes, as well as consecutive qualifications.<\/p>
