The article by scientists from the Department of Hydrotechnics, Technology and Works Organization of the Institute of Civil Engineering of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences was published in the international journal “IEEE Access” (5-year IF for 2020: 4.076; general IF 3.745).<\/strong><\/div>\n

\"\"Dr. Ind. Marta Kiraga and dr in\u017c. Anna Miszkowska (now Markiewicz) conducted research on the application of Lane’s concept in the process of formation of the unfavorable phenomenon of local blurring below the damming structures. Lane’s concept is one of the best known dependencies in the field of fluvial geomorphology used to predict the direction of changes in the hydromorphology of river beds. So far, its use has been prognostic, not quantitative. By means of a dimensional analysis, the authors proposed a modified form of Lane’s dependence, which can be used in river engineering and hydraulic engineering to estimate the geometric parameters of local blur. The formula has been recognized by international reviewers and has been field tested with promising results.<\/p>\n

For laboratory measurements, the authors used a measuring device consisting of a LiDAR laser scanner, a Raspberry Pi microcomputer for formulating control commands and stepper motors. Thanks to this, the device, called Prototype A1, moved along the laboratory trough.<\/p>\n

The load-bearing elements of the Prototype were made of biodegradable polyactide and printed on a 3D printer. The polyactide used in the research is obtained from renewable natural resources, such as, for example, corn meal. The A1 prototype was constructed by Marta Kiraga and Matvey Razumnik, then PhD students in the field of construction, as part of an internal grant entitled “Influence of small water structures on the conditions of dragged sediment transport” implemented at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering.<\/p>\n

The result of the research was the publication of an article entitled “Lane’s relation in local scour investigations” by dr in\u017c. Marty Kiragi and dr in\u017c. Anna Miszkowska in the IEEE Access journal. IEEE Access is a scientific journal published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, focused on the electronics and technology industries. Its subject matter covers the most innovative issues, such as: Big Data, remotely controlled devices and artificial intelligence. The journal imposes strict requirements on the publication, the most important of which is uniqueness, modernity and the possibility of practical application of the presented content based on strictly defined engineering analyzes.<\/p>\n
