Poland’s water resources are among the lowest in Europe. Deficiencies in water management may become a serious barrier to socio-economic development. As part of the Open Eyes Economy Summit initiative, outstanding specialists, including scientists from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, have developed Water Alerts, in which they discuss in detail: the state, threats and needs for action in the field of water management.<\/strong><\/div>\n

Polish agriculture depends largely on rain. The time and area diversified water resources of our country are not enough for mass irrigation of crops that may be needed in a changing climate. If we do not take effective action, we may run out of food produced domestically.<\/p>\n

Prof. dr hab. Kazimierz Banasik, prof. dr hab. Tomasz Okruszko, prof. dr hab. Edward Pierzgalski and dr hab. Miko\u0142aj Piniewski from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences and prof. Zbigniew Kundzewicz Honorary Doctor from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences was invited to join the group of Water Alert experts. It includes nine reports detailing key issues such as: water in spatial planning, integrated approaches to water management, water management in strategic development programming documents, and the reduction of the risk of floods and droughts.<\/p>\n
