Our Students Are Designing the First Public Square in Rembertów
Students of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) are participating in the development of a land-use concept for the site where the first public square in the Rembertów District of the Capital City of Warsaw will be created.
Students from the Landscape Architecture, Urban Horticulture and Arboriculture, Biology, and Biotechnology programmes have become involved in the project. The work began with design workshops that included, among other activities, a floristic and dendrological inventory as well as a spatial analysis of the area designated for the future public square.
The next stage involved consultations on the proposed concepts. Students presented their ideas and design solutions to academic staff from the SGGW Institute of Horticultural Sciences and representatives of the Rembertów District. Participants in the consultations included Prof. Beata Fornal-Pieniak, PhD, DSc, SGGW Professor, coordinator of the agreement on behalf of SGGW; Prof. Piotr Latocha, PhD, DSc; Dagmara Stangierska-Mazurkiewicz, PhD Eng.; Filip Kamionowski, MSc Eng.; as well as district office staff.
On 31 May 2026, during the Rembertów Days celebrations, SGGW students presented their projects to local residents. Representatives of the university’s academic staff also attended the event, supporting the presentation of the concepts and engaging in discussions with residents about the future development of the site.
The event also provided an opportunity for meetings regarding further cooperation between SGGW and the Rembertów District. Participants included Rembertów District Mayor Maciej Iwanicki, Deputy Mayor Arkadiusz Piotrkowski, and landscape architect Renata Domańska, who is actively involved in joint initiatives undertaken by both institutions.
The competition for the best public-square development concept is scheduled to be decided in September 2026. The final evaluation of the projects will be preceded by an analysis of feedback from Rembertów residents, who had the opportunity to review the proposals during the Rembertów Days celebrations.
