SGGW strengthens its presence in the European Universities Initiative
An international success for the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. The European Commission has announced the results of the European Universities Initiative call, in which the project prepared by the EuroLeague of Life Sciences Universities – ELLS alliance received funding to continue operating as a European University. Until now, the alliance had operated with the “Seal of Excellence” distinction.
This significant achievement confirms the high quality, sustainability, and importance of the cooperation developed over the past 25 years among the universities united within ELLS. The awarded funding will support the implementation of a two-year project aimed at further strengthening this international partnership and establishing a modern model of European higher education in the field of life sciences.
The project focuses primarily on developing a joint educational offer that leverages the expertise and experience of each partner institution. Planned activities include the design of joint degree programs, increased mobility for students, doctoral candidates, and staff, and the creation of flexible curricula addressing key contemporary challenges such as sustainability, food security, and the transformation of rural areas.
A further key component of the project will be the development of future-oriented competencies and the implementation of innovative teaching methods, allowing for greater personalization of learning pathways and better preparing graduates to succeed in the international labor market.
The ELLS alliance unites leading European universities specializing in the life sciences.
The following institutions will be involved in the initiative: the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), the University of Hohenheim (Germany), Wageningen University & Research (the Netherlands), the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (Czech Republic), the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (Norway), the Estonian University of Life Sciences (Estonia), L’Institut Agro (France), the University of Lleida (Spain), the University of Tuscia (Italy), and the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW). The project’s associated partners are the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU, Austria), the Hebrew University of Jerusalem – Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Israel), and Lincoln University (New Zealand).
SGGW’s presence in the European Universities Initiative is part of the University’s broader internationalisation strategy. It confirms SGGW’s active role in building a European space for academic, educational and research cooperation.
